Montblanc is known for its expert craftsmanship, and its ability to tell a magnificent story through beautiful writing instruments. The Great Characters collection tells the story of wonderful individuals who have left their mark on history.

This year Montblanc is telling the story of Enzo Ferrari. Born in Modena, Italy in 1898, Enzo Anselmo Giuseppe Maria Ferrari was both a motor racing driver and entrepreneur. Ferrari was the founder of the Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix motor racing team as well as a global automotive empire. Over the years Enzo had many different nicknames including "il Commendatore" or "il Drake". In his final years, he was often referred to as "l'Ingegnere" (the Engineer) or "il Grande Vecchio” (the Great Old Man).

When releasing a new collection, Montblanc regularly releases a ‘Special Edition and a ‘Limited Edition’ pen. Both the Special Edition and Limited Edition pens have taken their inspiration from the renowned Ferrari 500 F2 model.

The Special Edition line has been made using red precious resin. Red is the iconic colour of the Ferrari brand, so much so that Ferrari ‘Rosso 70 Anni’ was a colour made specifically for Ferrari.

The LE98 is limited to 1,898 pieces to represent the birth year of Enzo Ferrari. Crafted out of casted metal, the LE1898 writing instrument is reminiscent of the ‘Ferrari 125 S' engine.

Each writing instrument has been crowned with Montblanc’s distinctive emblem. What makes these emblem’s unique to Ferrari is the grid they’ve been encased in - this is to represent a vintage Ferrari car grill.

You can’t have a writing instrument dedicated to Ferrari without the iconic Prancing Horse. The Prancing Horse came from a horse that was originally gifted to Enzo, it was meant to bring him luck in all his endeavours.

The hand-crafted nibs have been specially engraved with Enzo’s iconic nicknames as well as the outline of a Ferrari 250 GTO steering wheel.
